Dr. Tom Ben-Dov

Tom Ben-Dov is a medical doctor and graduated cum laude from Semmelweis University in Budapest, Hungary. He joined the Department of Otolaryngology at the Meir Medical Center in 2015 and continues his medical education and residency program at Tel Aviv University since then. In parallel to his residency, he worked as a laboratory assistant in the Department of Anatomy at Tel Aviv university, where he was exposed to finite element analysis of the ossicular chain. In October 2018, he decided to pursue his studies in the field of genetic deafness and joined our lab. His research focuses on studying deafness as a result of SLC26A4 mutations using CRISPR-Cas9-based animal models. Moreover, Tom collaborates with the Prof. Micha Fridman group for bio-organic and medicinal chemistry research. Together, we were awarded the TAU Breakthrough Innovative Research Grant. The research focuses on the ototoxic effect of aminoglycoside antibiotics required for the treatment of infectious diseases. As a surgeon scientist, Tom continues his medical education, he has published one book for otolaryngology residents and he accept patients at Clalit Health services, the largest of Israel’s four state-mandated health service organizations.
